Description
When you visit an older vibration test lab, the shaker and power amplifier (especially if it’s an older tube type amplifier will probably draw your interest. Mostly we see solid-state power amplifiers, which recently have become much smaller. Shaker system controls are nowadays are remote. In this ebook, please focus on the power amplifier. Its function: to deliver sufficient alternating voltage and current (ac) to the shaker’s moving coil. Then , as discussed in ebook 15, the coil can force the shaker armature, test fixture and DUT (device under test) to move, as seen in an animation.
We don’t show nor discuss the details of the circuitry which develops the needed ac power. Your friendly shaker system supplier will be happy to furnish those details. Instead we discuss what the circuitry accomplishes. The force developed in the armature (and thus the acceleration of the armature and load) is proportional to the alternating current which passes through the driver coil. The velocity of armature motion is proportional to the voltage applied across that coil.
